______________

Nic Baisley

My name is Nic Baisley and I’m an independent film critic and consultant. This means that I spend a lot of time in front of a screen eating popcorn and not a whole lot of time exercising. But when the opportunity came up to work with my charity, KidFlicks.org, I hopped on my bike and started walking every day to get into some sort of shape (that isn’t oval) to support their cause. Who are Kid Flicks you ask? They’re an organization started by the Barta sisters in the Spring of 2002 to provide movies to children in pediatric hospitals to aid in their convalescence and “…as of April 13, 2013 Kid Flicks has donated 65,100 movies to 651 hospitals throughout the United States and South Africa.”

Working with KidFlicks.org gives me an opportunity to combine my passion for movies with using our voice to help kids in need.
I was introduced to Hell Walk through a mutual friend of Josh Tate and mine, Melanie Marquez. I fell in love instantly with the idea and passion behind what Hell Walk stood for. When Josh explained that this year other people would have the opportunity to walk for their charities, I immediately wanted to jump on board. I know I’m going to have to step up my game to a whole new level to compete with Josh and his athleticism, but I feel that I’m up to the challenge to at least give him a run for his money (literally!).

About KidFlicks.org

Kid Flicks is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that donates movie libraries of 100 assorted DVDs to Children’s Hospitals and Pediatric Departments throughout the country.

Sisters Lexi, Romi, Marni and Berni co-founded Kid Flicks in 2002 after donating their own collection of movies to the Pediatric Oncology Department of Cedar Sinai Hospital.

Kid Flicks receives DVD donations from individuals throughout the country as well as from movie production companies and studios. With these donations, we compile movie libraries, which we ship to hospitals in all 50 states. Monetary donations along with grants provide funding for shipping costs.

It is our goal to donate a movie library of 100 DVDs to every Children’s Hospital and Pediatric Department within the United States. Every donation brings us closer to accomplishing this goal.

Through providing these movie libraries, Kid Flicks helps children cope with what may be a painful and scary experience.

______________

Wish Nic luck everyone! His feet are gonna need it!!

It was a reasonably good day, but I had hoped to get soooo much more done. As is often the case, there just wasn’t enough time. Woke up early (but should have woken up earlier), but then had to miss my evening workout because, simply put, a friend needed me (hence, the fact that this post is coming today instead of yesterday). All of this is another way of saying is that it is going to be extraordinarily difficult for me to hit 10,000 calories by the deadline (which is TODAY). Nevertheless, in a few minutes, I’m going to log off, jump on my bike and see what I can do. As of now, I’m here: Calories Burned – 5460 Calories to Go – 4540 It will be a monumental effort to get to 10,000 by midnight today, but — hey — that’s why we’re here, right?
All things considered, I thought I had a really good day. Been staying on the east side of town for the last week taking care of a friend’s boisterous dog. While fun, the extra driving has taken a bite out of my morning training time and the same happened this morning. Still, I managed to cram in a morning, afternoon and evening walk about town — as well as an hour of yoga this morning with a new yoga teacher! Like I said…a good day (and I’m back home in Santa Monica again so no more hour commutes). That leaves us here: Calories Burned – 2305 Calories to Go – 7695 Ended up cutting short my evening work because of a growing blister on my right heel. That means the bike tomorrow morning — bright and early!

That leaves us here:

Calories Burned – 2305

Calories to Go – 7695

Ended up cutting short my evening work because of a growing blister on my right heel. That means the bike tomorrow morning — bright and early!

As I mentioned last Friday, the next 7 days are going to be totally directed towards one goal — burning 10,000 calories in one week (wherein I will, hopefully, make up for some of the training time that I have lost recently). Today started off pretty well. Got in a decent bike ride (though it misted and hinted at rain the whole time) and a quick hike around the block. Of course it WAS the premiere night of the amazing Game of Thrones, so I basically cashed it in after the hike and dedicated myself to television. Still — a good start to the week! Gotta keep it up over the next six days so that next Saturday doesn’t turn into one of those “need-to-burn-3500-calories-today-to-meet-my-goal” monsters. Here’s hoping!
As those of you who have been keeping up with Hell Walk 3 already know, this has been a TOUGH 2013 in terms of getting any training done. Either I’m sick with the flu, I’m working long hours or both. Don’t get me wrong — I LOVE my job and count myself infinitely lucky to have it (lucky, lucky, LUCKY) — but training for Hell Walk 3 just ain’t gonna happen when you are working 90 hours a week (which I did just a few weeks ago). All that said, things do feel like they are settling into a gentler pattern now, which is great because Hell Walk 3 is less than TWO MONTHS AWAY! I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that the fact terrifies me, mostly because I’ve found it difficult to walk for three straight hours lately. How in the hell am I gonna manage to work for 24 hours? Or longer? Nevertheless…onward! With so little time left, I feel like I really need to set some challenges for myself. The one for this week is probably familiar to many of you — I’m gonna burn 10,000 calories in one week and update the website every day. That means one thing — lots of walking and lots of biking. Starting tomorrow morning. If any of you are interested in joining me, just drop a line to josh@hellwalk.com and we’ll set up a time that works for both of us (or all of us, as the case ...

Tomorrow’s plan is do several walks around the 2.5 mile Los Feliz Blvd Loop, so if you are interested you will find me there.

Also, will very likely announce the first Hell Walk 3 Co-Walker next week! I’m so excited that a good friend of mine has decided to join me and compete against me to raise money for his/her charity. That’s all I’ll say on that for now, but for those who know me well, I think you’ll get a kick out of this selection (and will love his/her charity choice).

For now, I’ll sign off and go rub the blisters out of my feet! Thanks for reading! And, as always, if you can afford a donation to Hell Walk 3 I would be truly touched!!

Thanks!
